The Role of The Safety Advisor
The primary person responsible for Health and Safety is our Managing Director Mr Alan Price.
Our full time Safety Advisor, Heath McHugh along with our external advisors EEF Northwest, provide the company with all the necessary information to comply with and in many cases exceed the legal obligations of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
The Safety Advisor has a number of responsibilities, which includes the following:
Advise management on the preparation, promulgation and review of a Company Safety Policy for Health, Safety and Welfare including the organisation and arrangements for carrying out the Policy.
Give advise to management as requested on:-
(a) Legal requirements affecting Health, Safety and Welfare.
(b) Prevention of injury and damage.
(c) Provisions, selection and use of protective clothing and equipment.
(d) New working methods, equipment or materials which could reduce risks.
(e) Proposed changes in legislation.
(f) Potential hazards on new sites before work starts, health and safety factors affecting the selection of plant and equipment, subcontractors and so on.
(g) Specialist services required in relation to substances hazardous to health, noise, asbestos removal etc.
- Carry out regular inspections of site and workplaces to determine whether work is being carried out in accordance with Company Policy, Method Statements and the relevant statutory provisions. Provide an inspection report to site supervision and send a copy of the report to the Safety Director nominated in the Company .
- Assist management in notifying the Health and Safety Executive of new sites, dangerous occurrences, major injury accidents and so on, in accordance with Company Policy.
- Assist management in any dealing with the Health and Safety Executive.
- Carry out investigations of serious accidents in accordance with Company Policy and prepare and provide statistics.
- Check that the necessary first aid equipment is on sites or at workplaces and arrange for supply if requested.
- Check that necessary statutory literature for use or display is on sites or at workplaces and arrange for supply if requested.
- Provide advice on training requirements and arrange training courses where required .
- Endeavour to establish at all levels within the Company and understanding that compliance with the regulations and prevention of injury and damage is a profitable and essential integral part of business and operational efficiency.
