TAAG Steelwork are currently working on two new energy centres which will provide environmentally friendly power and heat for the East End of London.
The sites are located at Kings Yard and Stratford City, and each provide their own unique challenges.
Kings Yard
The site, located in the old Kings Yard Industrial Buildings, requires a brand new build to be blended to existing listing buildings.
The build will see the construction of a 45 meter flue tower, which as well as being functional, is designed to be a striking part of the local skyline.
Stratford Energy Centre
Due to tight scheduling timeframes work on the site will continue 7 days a week for a 5 week period, when the building will be handed over for the next stage of construction.
Meticulous planning before construction began, which included shutting down local Railway Links due to the proximity of nearby Railway Lines and the Channel Tunnel link, ensures that the project continues on schedule and with minimal disruption to local services.
The energy centre will provide lighting and heating for the new Stratford City Retail Development.
In total these installations comprise of over 1000 tonnes of Steelwork with 2000 metres of edge protection and 7000m2 of PCC Units.
The innovative methods used in the Energy Centres will have environmental and economic benefits. The biomass technologies will create energy which will reduce carbon emissions (the main greenhouse gas). The Energy Centres will reduce carbon emissions by 20 per cent - 5,000 tonnes per year.
